Green woodworking in Wales

Come and join a unique and unusual green woodworking retreat, deep in the woods on the borders of the Brecon Beacons.

Over the weekend, you'll learn about choice of wood, safe use of tools, and traditional green-woodworking skills. Over the weekend, you'll be able to make a mallet, a butterknife and/or spatula and a stool - practical things you can take home with you of course.

Our tutor for the weekend is Ben Kelleher - Ben has years of experience working with wood, making things and working with trees; having ran his own business, Benjamin Trees, he's now a forest ranger at Heart of England Forest, a charity that aims to create and conserve a thriving broadleaf Forest of 30,000 acres (half the size of Birmingham).

These are fun, relaxed sessions, focussing on basic skills as well as the tools we use and knowledge about different kinds of woods and their uses. The days finish with a lovely campfire, food and, perhaps, a bit of music.

You can sign up for a single day session - we'll cover all the basics and have lots of fun - or make a weekend of it, allowing more time to refine your skills and create more - or more complex - pieces.

For accommodation, there are lots of lovely B&Bs and hotels in the area. Of course, you're welcome to camp in the woods, but the facilities are very basic.)
